How to train for mile/team?

I am trying to get on a high school tennis team,

their requirements are:

must be 5 ft 4' at least

run the mile in 7 min 30 sec or better

can play both doubles and singles

must be experienced on the court

The tryouts are in competition layout, the top 8 winners are chosen for the team, the top two will be on Varsity.

I have some experience on the court and i'm still working on my technique.

My mile time is horrible, 10:43, what can I do to improve it?

Is it too much to run a mile everyday and have 2 hours of tennis practice and 5 hours of dance on weekends?

jigglepiggle,

I suggest you try a technique that some athletes train to called "Fartlek". It does sound odd but it's based on interval training (Training programs vary between bouts of heavy or very heavy work with periods of rest or light work).

I needed to get into "basketball shape" last season (explosive movements, cardio, speed, strength) fairly quickly, and this method helped me. It does normally take a little dedication, I suggest training with a friend and making it fun. I'll be doing this soon as basketball training will be starting for me soon...Too bad I don't know you!! :D

My first thought is that it is ridiculous to say you must be 5ft 4in tall. My wife is shorter than that and she is a fine tennis player. There have also been some good pros shorter than that also. Amanda Coetzer and Rosie Casals come to mind regarding that.

To improve the mile time you will have to run more than 1 mile a day. 2 or 3 miles a day is what I would recommend. You can do that in 20 to 30 minutes, and less as you improve. You should be able to handle the amount of exercise involved.
if u have a tredmill at home try running a mile or half mile very day or in the morning and at night
